Generations III: Emerging Trends in Consumer Preferences

When: Thursday, May 13, 2010
Where: 2010 Colorado Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (CAHSA), Keystone, CO
Speakers: Sharon Brooks

Generations III will continue a longitudinal study of Silent Generation consumers (those born between 1925 to 1942 and now ages 68 to 85). This year, as the first Baby Boomers turn 65, we will extend the research to include a comparison to the Boom Generation (those born between 1943 and 1960 and now ages 50 to 67).

Generations I and II were presented to large audiences at AAHSA conferences in 1995 and 2000, and as before, we will present the findings of a national research study. The study will pose the same questions asked in the previous studies and will allow us to track trends in consumer values and preferences. Key questions tracked over all studies will include: likelihood to consider a move to various types of senior living communities; preferences for not-for-profit vs. for-profit sponsors; the importance of religious affiliation; goals for the future; health and wellness; fears for the future; preferred accommodations; interest in various activities and programs; preference for financial options; important amenities; health care concerns, and other measurements. There will also be new questions introduced to delve into emerging concepts such as technology-based care and co-housing. In addition, presenters will discuss how leaders in the field are responding to emerging preferences.

This session will discuss and highlight strategies for effective capital campaigns in senior living communities in this economic environment. Topics will include:

Presenters will offer 2-3 case studies of successful fundraising campaigns, including endowment funds, capital campaigns and annual giving campaigns. Presenters will outline each community’s critical success factors and will discuss the development and public relations strategy around each campaign.

In conclusion, there will be an in-depth question-and-answer period at the end of the presentation.
